UK Plastic Packaging Tax

Waste Guru and the team at Titan have the the latest update regarding the UK Plastic Packaging Tax.

As you may already know, the tax was launched in 2022, causing a lot of discussions and concerns among providers, manufacturers, and suppliers in the UK.

Under this tax, UK businesses are required to declare the weight of plastic packaging they handle, based on the plastic packaging components they manufacture or import into the UK. It is important to note that the tax applies to plastic packaging that does not contain at least 30% recycled plastic, highlighting the significance of using recycled materials.

Businesses that use plastic packaging are legally obligated to account for the Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) and collect it on behalf of HMRC. The government has recently announced an increase in the tax rate, effective from April 1st, 2024. The new rate will be £217.85 per tonne, up from the current rate of £210.82 per tonne.

It is evident that waste management is becoming increasingly important, and businesses need to adapt to these changes.
